Location: Chilkoot and Chilkat, Alaska area
Today was less action-packed than some of our whale watching or dog sledding days, but it turned out to be some of the most beautiful and relaxing scenery we’d seen in Alaska. We docked in Skagway and took a ferry across the harbor to Haines to start our exploration of the area. (There’s a separate Blog entry which shows more of Skagway and the journey on the ferry here: Skagway & Haines.)
There was a couple on the nature tour with us we spent time talking to. The woman was very serious about photography — she had a huge rig that must’ve cost thousands of dollars. I was pretty happy with the shots I was getting when I would show her on my little digital camera’s display and she’d ask where I got it and hustle over to where I was to try to duplicate what I’d done. I reckon I must have been doing pretty well.
Below are some purple lumins by the Chilkoot River, a chocolate lily (gorgeous color on these flowers), and a prickly rose (with a bee visitor).
In addition to some beautiful scenery, we saw a few more eagles. Below is one taking off from the edge of the water (there are lots more still on the ground near the water).
